Jonas Wepfer is currently a Ph.D. Student in the Caflisch group.
Mission Statement:
I graduated from the ETH in Zurich with a Master’s degree in biological chemistry. During my studies I was especially interested in understanding protein protein interactions and how the function of proteins can be mediated through their structure. This led me first to the University of Bern where I worked in the laboratory of Prof. Jin Li on a novel autoantibody which upon binding to the ion channel KCNQ1 would change its properties. I then moved to Sydney to work in the group of Prof. David James in the field of insuline resistance. The project I was working on aimed at understanding at a structural level the role played by PDE3B and ABHD15 in the signalling cascade leading to the inhibition of lipolysis in adipocytes. Back in Switzerland I wanted to continue to work on my Master’s thesis project but with a new computational approach. A collaboration between the laboratories of Prof. Andreas Plückthun and Prof. Amedeo Caflisch made it possible. I started my PhD in the beginning of 2021 and will be working on using computational methods to analyse designed armadillo repeat proteins in order to develop novel peptide binders.
