• Summary:

    Elena has obtained a diploma in chemistry with a specialisation in polyelectrolytes and biopolymers at the Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) in 2011, and pursued her doctoral studies in the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences of ETH Zurich, in the multidisciplinary laboratory of Prof. Leroux working on drug formulation and delivery (2012-2016). Her doctoral research was focused on developing nucleic acid delivery platforms for the local treatment of colonic diseases, such as IBD and cancer. The approaches included hydrophobic modification of nucleic acids, conjugation of cell penetrating peptides, and polymer-based delivery systems.

    She has been awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation and joined the Stevens group at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm for 6 months, and at Imperial College London for 2 years to develop light-activatable CRISPR systems for developmental biology applications (Publication: here).

    Elena has joined Caflisch group in May 2019 to study how epitranscriptomic modifications (e.g., m6A RNA) regulate various cellular processes and to explore proteins involved in RNA methylation as a novel anticancer drug targets. In her free time, she enjoys dancing salsa and lindy hop, studying Japanese language, and drawing.

    Dr. Elena Omori was a member of the Caflisch group from 05/2019 - 01/2022.
